A remarkable front side of a sandwich board early 20th Century trade sign. The tall and large hand painted and designed wooden sign advertises "This is Owen brothers low priced clothing house". The sign begins with a scroll decorated manicule—a typographical symbol shaped like a hand with an extended index finger, used to draw a reader's attention to an important place—and then followed by the text. Both the manicule and text are painted in a muted brick red with green drop shadow; and both are against a very light shade of olive green. Please note the lovely angular writing of the "Low Priced" words, which visually break up the message and in effect grabs more attention to the sign. The bottom sits on a shaped notched bottom edge that forms two feet.
Every part of this sign is splendid and takes us back to the 1900-1910 era which we believe this sign to be from. Today it would make a wonderful decorative wall art, be it in a house, or a retail setting. This unique trade sign that was found in the North East part of the United States.
