This multi-tasker is the kind of Italian design that manages to be sculptural, sophisticated, and thoroughly comfortable, an unusually successful combination. Its enveloping black leather form, softly rounded arms, supportive headrest, and sculptural metal base give it an unmistakable presence without resorting to theatrics.

In an office, it suggests that not every decision needs to be made sitting behind a desk. In a home theatre, it brings considerably more style to the proceedings. Beside a fireplace, it looks entirely at ease holding court. And in a bedroom, it is perfectly suited to reading, contemplating, or putting on your socks with the sort of composure usually reserved for people who have their lives considerably more together than the rest of us.

The swivel gives it just enough movement to keep things interesting; the reclining mechanism and integrated footrest take care of the rest. Fully reclined, it becomes almost chaise-like—because apparently there was no reason good design should require good posture.

Its design credentials are hardly incidental: this chair received the prestigious Good Design Award in 1999 and was subsequently selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Saint-Étienne.
