An outstanding example … Read more Exceptional and highly collectible pair of “Pianura” lounge chairs, designed by Mario Bellini for Cassina in 1971. An outstanding example of Bellini’s early 1970s work, the Pianura combines a low, architectural silhouette with generous, softly rounded upholstered volumes. The substantial seat and back cushions are beautifully framed by the warm walnut structure, creating a sophisticated contrast between sculptural softness and precise Italian cabinetmaking. Particularly striking is the exposed walnut construction, which wraps around the base and continues upward to form the structural back. Viewed from behind, the chairs reveal an exceptionally attractive architectural composition, allowing them to be positioned freely within an interior rather than exclusively against a wall.

Both lounge chairs retain their Cassina manufacturer’s labels, confirming their production by Cassina, Italy. This is an important detail for collectors and further enhances the desirability of this matching pair. The walnut displays a beautiful warm patina consistent with age.
