This is a beautifully crafted vintage Chinese wooden treasure box, likely made of Huanghuali or a similar fine hardwood. The box features a rectangular form with a hinged lid and a front lockplate with a circular metal clasp. The exterior is intricately carved in low relief with a dense, geometric lattice (cracked-ice or brocade) ground. Set within this ground are four circular cartouches on the lid, each depicting a different traditional floral motif (plum blossom, bamboo, lotus, and chrysanthemum), along with a central scene of birds among flowers. The front and side panels feature shaped cartouches containing similar floral and bamboo designs. The wood has a rich, warm amber-brown tone with a smooth, polished patina and visible, fine grain. The sides are fitted with brass ring handles for carrying. The box is raised on a slightly recessed base and features traditional joinery visible at the corners. This is an elegant and functional piece, perfect for storing jewelry, tea, or small collectibles.
