This creature is a popular motif in Chinese architecture and decorative arts, believed to protect against fire and control water. The beast is depicted in a dynamic, crouching posture with its head raised and one front paw lifted, as if in mid-motion. It features a detailed, stylized face with a broad nose, bulging eyes, and a flowing mane, while its body is decorated with scrolling cloud and flame motifs. The bronze exhibits a rich, aged patina with a mottled blend of dark brown, green verdigris, and extensive gold leaf (tuo jin) highlights on the raised details, giving it a deep, antique character. A rare and impressive collector's piece.
