The composition is dominated by large, open hibiscus-like blossoms, painted in warm lemon and golden-yellow tones. Each flower is formed with broad, loosely brushed petals surrounding soft coral-pink to rose centers, with delicate touches suggesting the projecting stamens. Downs varies the flowers throughout the composition—some are shown fully open and facing the viewer, while others appear in profile, partially opened, or gracefully drooping from slender stems.
The flowers are surrounded by an abundance of deep green serrated foliage, creating a strong contrast with the luminous yellow petals. Long, curving stems give the arrangement a natural, almost garden-grown quality rather than the formal appearance of a traditional vase still life.
