Original vintage poster from 1981 for the Rufus show at the Théâtre de la Gaîté Montparnasse in Paris (music by Jean-Marie Senia).
Illustrated by Jean-Michel Folon, with his signature printed into the artwork.
Symbolism of the artwork:
This iconic poster illustrated by Jean-Michel Folon perfectly captures the poetic and unique world of the Rufus show. The giant hand, a recurring and protective motif in Folon's work, embodies theatrical gesture, the actor's physical expression, and a welcoming connection with the audience. Acting as both a poetic refuge and a creative pedestal, it transports the character into an imaginary world imbued with gentleness and surrealism. A striking and highly sought-after image, at the crossroads of contemporary graphic art and the history of Parisian theater in the 1980s.
