The composition centers on a large luminous green sphere, most likely representing Earth. Irregular pieces of multicolored glass form abstract continents across its surface, while an intense yellow-green halo makes the planet appear to radiate its own energy. Above it, a smaller amber-colored sphere is surrounded by linear rays and concentric circles, suggesting the sun. Two vivid blue glass elements evoke distant planets, while numerous spirals, sweeping arcs and radiating lines may be interpreted as galaxies, planetary orbits and cosmic currents. A particularly compelling aspect of the composition is that Earth appears to shine more intensely than the sun itself. This gives the work a poetic and possibly ecological meaning: Earth and the life it sustains become the true center of this imagined universe. The work was created from a substantial sheet of kiln-formed art glass. It appears to combine fused glass, colored glass frits or enamel pigments, sgraffito-like linear decoration and individually applied glass elements. The raised blue planets, the amber sun and the multicolored fragments forming the continents were fused onto the base during the firing process, producing a sculptural surface with pronounced depth and changing reflections. Slight variations in the surface and edges are characteristic of the handmade firing process. Acquired in Germany and believed to have been created by a German studio glass artist during the early 1990s. The work is unsigned. The glass panel is currently without a frame, brackets or permanent mounting hardware. This allows its future owner to select an installation appropriate to the intended interior. It may be displayed in a custom-made frame or metal support, incorporated into an architectural panel or room divider, mounted with specially designed wall brackets, professionally adhered to a suitable prepared surface, or installed with indirect backlighting to emphasize the exceptional luminosity and depth of the colored glass. Very good vintage condition. Dimensions: Height: 56 cm / 22.05 in. Width: 46 cm / 18.11 in. Glass thickness: approximately 0.4 cm / 0.16 in. Maximum depth including raised elements: approximately 0.8–1 cm / 0.31–0.39 in. Weight: approximately 2.8 kg / 6.17 lb.
