A Japanese Cloisonne enamel vase from the Meiji period (1868–1912), circa 1890. Standing 10 inches tall, the vase has a distinctive double gourd form, with a rounded lower body, narrow waist and smaller upper section.
Three shaped panels encircle the lower body against warm reddish brown grounds. They depict a phoenix with outstretched wings, a coiled dragon and a shishi among blossoms. The dark ground surrounding the panels is decorated with white floral motifs, small gold colored flowers and delicate scrolling details.
The upper section carries a dense geometric pattern beneath the mouth, with colorful ornamental motifs descending along the sides. Each view reveals a different part of the design, making the vase especially engaging to display in the round.
Height: 10 inches.
Condition: Mint condition.
