Their pale, bleached, glossy finish feels right at home in today's lighter, neutral interiors. Each table has a generous lower surface and a raised upper tier on an angled support. The tops are framed with fine inlaid banding, and the tapered legs end in brass sabots.

Both tables carry Lane's stamped maker's mark, with Style No. 1847. Lane's serial numbers encode the manufacture date when read backwards, and this one dates the pair to 1958 -- one table made in May, the other made in July.

The pair is solid and sturdy with a lovely, pronounced wood grain showing through the light finish. The wood is believed to be Walnut, but difficult to confirm with the glossy, pale finish. They're equally suited to flanking a sofa, serving as nightstands, or working as a pair of side tables in a reading nook. See less
