This exceptional example of early 20th-century Peking weaving presents a stunning visual depth, characterized by its substantial scale, making it ideal for grand interiors requiring room size rugs. The quality of the wool and the deep, lustrous pile are immediately apparent.

The dramatic field is rendered in a profound, nearly midnight indigo, establishing a sophisticated backdrop typical of the finest blue color rugs from this period. This rich saturation highlights the subtle sheen of the hand-knotted wool, allowing the contrasting motifs, executed in a soft ochre, to appear almost illuminated against the dark ground.

In keeping with the refined aesthetic of the 1920s, the design employs a sparse central medallion—here, a stylized vase of flowering branches—surrounded by delicate, trailing vines. The intricate border showcases continuous floral rugs patterns, providing remarkable clarity and definition to the naturalistic forms.

Woven in the famed workshops of Peking, this piece embodies the transition between classical Chinese design and the emerging Art Deco sensibilities of the era. Its age, condition, and masterful execution solidify its status among highly desirable antique rugs, offering both historical significance and timeless decorative appeal. See less
