This exceptional Chinese Art Deco piece captures the transitional elegance of the early 20th century, where traditional Eastern motifs met Western modernist sensibilities. Its generous proportions and striking field color classify it as a true room size rug, ideal for anchoring a sophisticated interior space.

The palette is defined by a striking central field of rich, saturated purple, an unusual and highly desirable hue in 1920s production. This deep purple color provides a dramatic contrast to the wide, subtly shaded taupe border, allowing the stylized natural imagery to truly pop against the expansive ground.

The design employs the characteristic asymmetry of the Art Deco period, featuring trailing branches, stylized birds, and a delicate hanging lantern suspended from the upper left corner. While the overall presentation is streamlined and modern, the detailed rendering of the blossoms and foliage connects it to centuries of floral rugs tradition in Chinese weaving.

Woven from high-quality wool, this piece exhibits excellent knotting and a lustrous pile, confirming its provenance as a fine example of period weaving. Such striking color combinations and preserved condition make this a highly sought-after example among collectors of antique rugs, representing a pivotal moment in global textile design. See less
