This antique cast iron figural doorstop depicts a standing knight in full suits of plate armor with a lowered visor, resting his right hand upon a broadsword and draping a cloak over his left arm. Standing approximately 9 inches tall on an integral semi-circular green base, this hollow single-piece wedge casting features a textured back interior typical of late 19th to early 20th-century American foundry work.
The figure retains a handsome layer of cold-painted polychrome finish featuring bright gold accents across the armor plates, rich red along the flowing cloak and helmet crest, and original forest green paint along the base. The piece has great shelf presence and serves equally well as a decorative door sentry, bookend, or hearth accent.
Design Significance: Highly prized by interior designers seeking Gothic Revival, Tudor, or Eclectic accents, this figural knight doorstop balances historicism with architectural scale. The contrast between warm gold armor and rich red draping offers a pop of period color ideal for fireside hearths, entry foyers, or library shelving.
Curator's Note: An exceptionally crisp 1920s cast iron knight doorstop boasting authentic polychrome paint layers. Standing at 9 inches high with substantial weight, this piece functions beautifully as a hearth sentry or a grounding sculptural element atop leather-bound books in a traditional or transitional study.

Authenticity Assessment This piece displays key physical markers of an authentic early 20th-century cast iron production rather than a modern recast or reproduction. The casting lines along the perimeter are tight and well-finished without heavy flashing or modern grinder marks. The back hollow exhibits the micro-pitted, granular texture characteristic of sand-casting methods from the 1920s. Furthermore, the painted finish shows distinct layers of authentic cold-paint application with natural edge-wear, micro-crazing, and surface oxidation, avoiding the synthetic sheen or artificial distressing found on late 20th-century reproductions.
