This is a fascinating vintage Chinese bronze seal, cast in the form of a seated tiger on a rectangular base. The tiger is depicted with its head raised and mouth open, with a collar around its neck and decorative scrollwork on its haunches. The bronze is finished with a worn, gold-gilt (mud-gold) surface and shows a rich patina with red and green oxidation. The base of the seal is engraved with a complex Daoist Bagua (Eight Trigrams) design and characters, indicating it was likely used as a protective "town house" charm (镇宅). The bottom of the base also features engraved characters. It is a solid and intriguing collector's piece.
