This wonderfully patinated grape press screw dates to 1770 and comes from a French winery. It is carved from a solid walnut post mounted on a large square base, which maintains its original metal strapping. The shaft was used to drive a large stone wheel downward to squeeze the juice from grapes. Winemaking is a significant part of French history and culture, and these larger-than-life press screws allowed for the production of wine on a mass scale. The richly patinated surface of this screw would make it a lovely, unique plant stand or display pedestal. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for use in your interiors. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
