….For your consideration… a hand-painted ceramic figure of Quan Yin (also known as Guanyin or Kwan Yin), the beloved Buddhist goddess of mercy, in a luminous gilded finish, made in China in the 1950s.
She stands 16.5 inches tall, with one hand extended in a gesture of blessing and the other holding an attribute traditionally associated with Quan Yin, such as a vase of nectar or a willow branch, symbols of her ability to sprinkle blessings and offer spiritual nourishment. Her flowing robes are rendered in delicate detail, and her serene expression reflects the compassion and wisdom for which she is revered.
She is mounted on a lotus base measuring 5 inches by 5 inches, the lotus being the sacred flower that symbolizes purity and enlightenment rising from muddy waters. The lotus petals are clearly articulated and gilded to complement the figure. In all she measures 16.5 inches high, 5 inches wide, and 5 inches deep.
She will be at home in a meditation space or on a home altar, on a console table, mantel, or built-in shelf, and in mid-century modern or Asian-inspired interiors, where the warm gilt finish pairs well with brass, natural wood, and earth tones. She will also appeal to collectors of religious art and Buddhist objects.
The figure is lovingly used, with minor wear consistent with a piece of about 70 years and a gently aged patina to the gilding. We see no chips, cracks, or repairs. Measurements are approximate, and please examine all of the photographs carefully, as they are part of the description.
