A striking vintage Art Deco individual teapot closely following the celebrated tea-service design created by Gio Ponti for Krupp Berndorf in the 1930s.
The compact cylindrical body features a squared handle, short upright spout, hinged lid and distinctive loop finial. Behind the spout is an integrated perforated strainer designed to catch loose tea leaves while pouring. The streamlined geometry and highly functional construction are characteristic of Berndorf’s modern hotel and restaurant service wares.
Documented Berndorf examples of this form are associated with Gio Ponti’s 1930s Art Deco design and were produced in silver-plated alpacca. The form remained in production for decades, with later Berndorf examples dating into the mid-20th century.
This example is unmarked, or any original mark is now too worn to identify conclusively, so it is being offered in the manner of the Gio Ponti for Berndorf design rather than as a confirmed Berndorf production.
The silver-tone metal surface has developed a beautifully aged patina with visible rubbing, oxidation, scratching and finish variation that give the piece substantial character. A handsome decorative object for a bar cart, tea service, open shelving or a collection of Art Deco and hotel silver.
Measures approximately 4” tall including lid, 6” long from handle to spout, and 3” deep.
In very good vintage condition with surface wear, scratching, patina, oxidation and areas of finish loss consistent with age and use. Hinged lid opens and closes properly. Interior shows expected signs of previous use.
