This exceptional example of a late 19th-century Peking weaving captures the restrained elegance characteristic of the period. Its construction confirms its status among the finest antique rugs produced during the Qing Dynasty's final decades.

The expansive field is rendered in a sublime, softly faded robin's egg or sky blue, providing a serene backdrop for the scattered, stylized motifs. This delicate shade common among blue color rugs contrasts beautifully with the accents of deep indigo, creamy ivory, and a warm, earthy sienna that defines the intricate borders.

A large, circular central medallion dominates the composition, filled with scrolling vines and stylized cloud bands. The field surrounding this centerpiece is sparsely populated with individual sprays and butterfly motifs, showcasing the classical Chinese preference for open space. The use of scattered floral rugs elements emphasizes natural harmony and balance.

The sophisticated border system features a precise key-fret guard band and an outer band of scrolling floral vines, framing the central design with architectural precision. As a true room size rugs format, this Peking piece offers a significant foundation for a refined interior, merging historical artistry with enduring scale. See less
