19th century Danish chest of four drawers, crafted in pine with a warm wax finish that enhances the natural aged … Read more 19th century Danish chest of four drawers, crafted in pine with a warm wax finish that enhances the natural aged patina of the wood. The chest has an unusual architectural form, with the two center drawers inset between turned columns while the upper and lower drawers project slightly forward.
A distinctive crown-shaped top is hinged and lifts to reveal a shallow hidden storage compartment approximately 2.5 inches deep. There is no lock or key. The four drawers open with hanging brass pulls. This hardware is newer, and remaining holes to the left and right of each drawer indicate that two pulls were previously used on each drawer.
Age related nicks and scratches are visible throughout, including along the top, front edge, and drawers. Cracks are present along the left side and upper left trim. Some older nicks were filled at an earlier point in time and now appear lighter, with white or yellow tones visible in photographs. Residual signs of old dried wormhole activity are visible along the feet and base trim but are no longer active.
Restored, stable, waxed, and ready to use.
