A rare 19th-century Sèvres-style porcelain urn, standing 41 cm tall and finished in a striking bleu céleste turquoise ground with extensive hand-painted floral decoration and gilding.
The baluster-form body is decorated with delicate garlands of flowers, cornflowers and roses, arranged within white reserves and framed by richly applied gilt scrollwork, acanthus motifs and neoclassical ornament.
The vivid turquoise ground recalls the celebrated bleu céleste palette associated with the Sèvres manufactory and the luxurious decorative interiors of the Louis XV court.
Twin handles and a stepped square base add to the architectural quality of the design, while the overall form reflects the French Rococo and Louis XVI Revival taste that became particularly fashionable during the late 19th century.
This urn works beautifully as a statement piece on a console, mantel, pedestal or within a layered classical or eclectic interior.
