The collection consists of 24 volumes of novels and seven volumes of Poetical works. Several volumes contain more than one work, which explains why some familiar Scott titles do not appear as separately titled volumes. For example, A Legend of Montrose also contains The Black Dwarf; The Betrothed also contains Chronicles of the Canongate and The Highland Widow; The Talisman also contains The Two Drovers, My Aunt Margaret's Mirror, The Tapestried Chamber, and Death of the Laird's Jock; and the Surgeon's Daughter also contains Castle Dangerous.
The books retain considerable charm as a Victorian miniature Library. The original fitted wooden bookcase is an especially appealing feature and displays the volumes beautifully
Each volume bears an old handwritten owner's name and the date "1898" on the pastedown, an interesting indication of the collection's early history.
This is a wonderful decorative library set as well as an appealing collection for a Sir Walter Scott collector of Victorian miniature books.
Provenance: Purchased by the present owner in 1988 in Hay-ON-Wye, Wales, the famous "town of books". The collection has remained in a glass-fronted bookcase since that time. See less
