This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving features the highly sought-after imperial yellow field, a color historically reserved for the highest echelons of the Qing dynasty. The luxurious, saturated hue defines the aesthetic, making this piece a rare find among antique rugs.

The central medallion is rendered in rich indigo and cinnabar, depicting stylized birds and blossoms, while the open field is punctuated by delicately scattered sprays. This traditional composition balances negative space with vibrant detail, typical of the finest Peking production of the era, and clearly places it within the category of floral rugs.

A striking contrast is achieved through the deep, saturated navy border, which frames the vibrant field with classical Chinese geometric key patterns and stylized peony heads. The use of this strong blue alongside the primary yellow creates a visually arresting effect, enhancing the appeal of this particular palette among yellow rugs.

Woven with a dense, fine knot, this rug exhibits remarkable preservation, retaining the soft luster characteristic of high-quality wool. Its substantial dimensions ensure it functions perfectly as a magnificent room size rug, offering a sophisticated and historically rich foundation for any grand interior. See less
