This antique jewelry casket originates from the Russian North, specifically crafted in the traditional style of Veliky Ustyug or the broader Vologda region.
Woven Fabric Lining: The interior retains its original geometric woven textile lining, a traditional feature commonly used in northern Russian folk crafts and souvenir caskets from the late 19th to early 20th century.
The "Teremok" Structure: The casket is shaped with a characteristic domed, trunk-style lid that mimics historical teremoks (medieval Russian tower houses or upper chambers).
The Silver Overlay: The exterior displays a hand-chased silver/silver-plated openwork overlay featuring stylized S-scrolls and foliate motifs, contrasting against a darkened brass or copper base.

Surface Wear: Light oxidation and expected minor tarnish in the recessed areas and top handle which beautifully highlights the depth of the metal relief work. Structure: The structural integrity is perfectly intact. The swinging handle, structural brass feet, and front closure latch move and function smoothly. The interior fabric remains remarkably clean with no major fraying, stains, or odors. less
