This exquisite example of a Peking rug captures the refined aesthetic prevalent during the early 20th century, characterized by its open field design and restrained color palette. It represents a sophisticated piece within the history of antique rugs.

The foundation features a luminous, slightly shifting field of ivory color, providing a perfect canvas for the dramatic, stylized motifs. This neutral ground ensures the rug maintains a sophisticated air while allowing the deep indigo elements, which form the primary design, to articulate the narrative clearly.

The design is distinctly pictorial, featuring stylized trees, soaring phoenixes, and scattered butterflies rendered in a bold, contrasting blue. These floral rugs and naturalistic elements are executed with the characteristic sparse elegance of the Peking style, emphasizing negative space and graceful line work.

Measuring as a small scatter size, this piece is ideally suited for intimate spaces, such as an entryway, beside a bed, or layered over existing flooring. Its exceptional condition and classic Chinese iconography make it a highly desirable textile for collectors seeking authenticity and timeless design See less
