A beautifully crafted Chinese rectangular box, likely made of Huali (rosewood). The box features a hinged lid with brass hardware and side carrying handles, and opens to reveal a spacious, unlined interior. The top and front panels are exquisitely decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (shell) inlay, depicting a lively scene of magpies perched amongst blossoming plum branches, a traditional motif known as "Happiness on the Eyebrows" (Xi Shang Mei Shao) symbolizing joyful tidings. A sophisticated piece for storing jewelry, seals, or other small treasures.
