A striking pair of large Chinese Cloisonné enamel Buddhist lions (foo dogs). Each figure is seated on its haunches, with intricate, dark-patinated bronze detailing on the head, mane, and paws. The bodies are brightly enameled in a celadon green ground and densely decorated with multi-colored scrolling floral and vine motifs. The lion on the left is depicted with its paw resting on a playful cub, while the lion on the right rests its paw on a brocade ball, traditional symbols of nurturing and power. These substantial figures make wonderful statement pieces.
