A beautifully crafted set of two Chinese hardwood nesting boxes, likely made of Huali (rosewood). Each box features deep relief carvings on its lid and sides. The larger box depicts a traditional landscape scene of mountains, pavilions, and trees, accompanied by a famous classical poem in calligraphy. The smaller box features a similar landscape motif. Both boxes are fitted with brass hardware including a front latch and side carrying handles, and open to reveal spacious, unlined interiors. A wonderful set of storage boxes for scholar's objects or treasures.
