A beautifully crafted Chinese hardwood box, likely made of Huali (rosewood), featuring deep relief carvings throughout. The lid is intricately carved with a traditional landscape scene of figures in a garden setting, accompanied by a famous classical poem in calligraphy. The front panel depicts a pavilion amidst rocky mountains and trees. The box is constructed with traditional joinery, fitted with brass hardware including a front latch and side carrying handles, and opens to reveal a spacious, unlined interior. A wonderful storage piece for scholar's objects or treasures.
