A beautifully crafted Chinese rectangular box, likely made of Zitan wood. The box features a hinged lid with brass hardware and opens to reveal a spacious, unlined interior. The top of the lid is exquisitely decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (shell) inlay, depicting a lively scene of two golden carp leaping from stylized blue waves amidst lotus blossoms and foliage. The carp motif is a traditional Chinese symbol for abundance and success. A lovely piece for storing jewelry, tea, or small scholar's objects.
