The bearded figure is rendered with a broad-brimmed hat, walking staff and an elaborate load of bundles rising behind him. Angular planes, visible chisel work and simplified proportions give the piece the expressive character associated with traditional South American folk carving.

The subject and carving style closely relate to vintage Ecuadorian traveler and wandering merchant figures, a longstanding folk-art form depicting working and traveling village figures carrying goods or personal belongings. This example is unsigned, so the Ecuadorian attribution remains likely rather than definitive.

Its narrow vertical form and substantial 12-inch height make it an especially appealing accent for a bookshelf, mantel, console or collected global interior.

Measures approximately 12” tall, 2.5” wide, and 3.75” deep.

In very good vintage condition with light surface wear, natural wood variation and hand-tool marks consistent with age and handmade construction. No cracks or structural damage. See less
