A sculptural vintage studio pottery vase with a tall cylindrical form and richly layered earth-tone glaze. Hand-thrown in stoneware, the vessel features an irregular, tactile surface with raised horizontal bands wrapping the lower body and a subtly flared rim.
The glaze shifts between deep brown, black, rust, olive, and subtle blue-green tones, pooling and breaking across the textured surface to create considerable depth and variation. Horizontal ridges around the lower portion emphasize the handmade construction and give the otherwise restrained silhouette an architectural quality.
The underside bears an incised artist’s monogram, though the maker has not been identified.
A distinctive one-of-a-kind studio ceramic equally suited to displaying flowers or standing alone as a sculptural object.
