They can be tucked under a console table, placed under a window, or displayed at the foot of a bed. They are great for providing extra seating wherever you need them.

The stools feature carved solid walnut frames with curvaceous cabriole legs ending in pad feet and united with a turned H stretcher. The slip seat is newly upholstered with neutral Greek key pattern fabric. The pieces are unsigned but were likely high-quality early 20th century reproductions of late 17th century stools.

It's unusual today to find S-curve cabriole legs paired with stretchers. When furniture makers first experimented with the cabriole leg design in the late 17th century, they often reinforced the legs with H or X stretchers for strength and stability. Stretchers disappeared by the early 19th century, as it became clear that the cabriole legs were strong enough the need for extra support.

The early 20th century stools are in very good vintage condition. The walnut frames are quite solid and well made. There are scratches, dents, and scuffs, particularly on the legs, from normal age and use. The upholstery is new and very clean with no stains. Please see photos for more details about the condition of the stools.

Each stool measures 22" wide, 18" deep and 18" tall. See less
