A finely hand-stitched Vietnamese silk embroidery, c. 1980s–90s, showing a farmer in a straw hat leading a line of water buffalo across a shallow river. The scene is set against the dramatic limestone karst peaks of northern Vietnam's countryside, and the buffalo's reflections shimmer in the water.
The satin-stitch work is dense and painterly. Directional stitches and subtle color blending create the texture of the fur, the foliage and the rippling water. The glossy silk threads catch the light beautifully.
The piece is mounted on a pale sage silk brocade border and framed under glass in a warm wood frame with a gold inner liner.
