The bear is depicted standing upright on a substantial naturalistic carved wood base with one paw raised. The contrasting warm brown/orange muzzle, dimensional black nose and expressive face give the piece plenty of character. The lamp fixture rises discreetly from behind the bear, allowing the piece to function as both a decorative sculpture and accent lamp.

The design is reminiscent of traditional Black Forest-style bear carvings as well as rustic Adirondack and American lodge décor. The lamp is unmarked, and no specific maker, manufacturer or country of origin has been confirmed. It is therefore described as Black Forest style rather than as an authenticated Swiss Black Forest carving.
