Striking 1989 limited-edition photographic print depicting figures along the Berlin Wall in West Berlin, West Germany, by Jim Lukas. Pencil signed, dated ©1989, and numbered 10/200.
The dramatically high-contrast black-and-white composition transforms a candid urban scene into an almost abstract study of figures, architecture, and the monumental wall. Created in the pivotal year of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the work has both strong graphic presence and historical interest.
Jim Lukas is a Chicago-based photographer whose work has focused on urban environments and street photography. He exhibited at Chicago's Gallery 203 and was described by Newcity in a 2007 review as an underrecognized Chicago street photographer whose work explored urban walls, ruins, and the built environment. Lukas has also exhibited his photography through the Bucktown Arts Fest.
Presented under glass in a textured silver-tone frame. The work is inscribed “Berlin Wall, W. Berlin, W. Germany,” signed Jim Lukas, dated ©1989, and numbered 10/200.
