The primary carved scenes incorporate figures, landscape and architectural motifs surrounded by dense floral and foliate decoration. Additional carving continues across the upper surfaces and framing, giving the chest considerably more visual depth than a simple paneled trunk. Decorative brass-tone hardware provides another traditional accent against the darker exterior finish.

Opening the hinged top reveals a spacious, comparatively light wood interior suitable for blankets, linens, textiles, collections, or general household storage. The straightforward interior construction provides a useful counterpoint to the elaborate exterior.
