A striking vintage Tibetan polychrome painted cabinet featuring eight individually decorated front panels with hand-painted animal and landscape medallions surrounded by elaborate floral and scrolling motifs.
The rich palette of deep red, green, ochre and black has developed wonderful variation and wear over time. The cabinet is constructed of wood with paneled sides, wide plank construction to the back and a dark red-black finish contrasting the highly decorated façade.
Four central doors open to two separate storage compartments, each fitted with a fixed interior shelf. The hand-crafted construction, irregularities and beautifully aged painted surfaces give this piece tremendous character.
A highly decorative cabinet with an exceptional presence, equally suited as an entry cabinet, console, storage cabinet or statement piece.

Scattered chips, losses, scratches, scuffs, rubbing and areas of worn painted decoration are present throughout and are considered part of the character of the piece. The top has surface wear and a small area of loss along one back edge. The cabinet retains the irregularities expected of older hand-crafted construction, including separation and unevenness to some of the wide back boards. Doors are functional and close, although alignment is imperfect; the lower doors can travel slightly inward beyond the cabinet face when closed. Interior shows age-related wear and use. No attempt has been made to over-restore the cabinet or disguise its age and imperfections. less
