The shaped wood top has a gently scalloped edge surrounding a woven cane surface beneath removable glass. Thatcombination gives the table much more texture than a conventional solid-top console: the cane introduces a subtle geometric pattern, while the glass preserves a practical, clean surface and allows the material beneath to remain fully visible.

Below, the table becomes increasingly architectural. Ornamental scroll brackets frame the central support, creating an open, decorative structure above the three-footed base. The outward sweep of the legs balances the rounded top and gives the piece a graceful profile without requiring the footprint of a full rectangular console.

Southampton was the occasional-furniture line of Southwood Furniture Corporation, the Hickory, North Carolina furniture company known for traditional and historically influenced designs.
