Vintage French Natural History Bird Reproduction Print Art & Gilded Wood Frame


A wonderfully decorative vintage reproduction of French ornithological plate No. 78, “Faisan, Le Pierre de Cayenne,” after Martinet. The striking black bird with vivid blue crest and red legs is presented under glass in an unusually substantial ornate gilt and black frame with raised scrolling foliate details and an aged finish.

This is a later decorative reproduction rather than an 18th-century original engraving. The framing, backing board, hardware and construction suggest a late 20th-century presentation, likely circa 1980s–1990s. The visible artwork measures approximately 8" x 10". Age-related wear and patina to the frame add to its collected character.
