A commanding American library table in the manner of R.J. Horner. Four S-scroll legs rise into deeply carved, open-mouthed lion heads with flowing manes, finished with acanthus scrolls and turned feet. A shaped stretcher shelf joins the base. The top shows a striking ribbon-stripe mahogany figure with rounded corners and a molded edge. Two dovetailed drawers slide smoothly and have warm, light-toned interiors. Gadrooned carving wraps the apron corners.
The table sits on casters and moves easily despite its solid build. It works beautifully as a writing desk, entry statement piece, or library table.
Maker: Unidentified. The only mark is an old ink-inscribed paper tag on the underside.
Hardware: A matching set of vintage pulls has been ordered and will be installed within the next few days. The original pulls are included with the table.
