This exceptional Chinese Peking piece captures the restrained elegance of the Art Deco era, characterized by its bold use of color and simplified structure. As a fine example of antique rugs, its wool pile retains a remarkable luster, reflecting the quality craftsmanship of the period.

The field is dominated by a rich, deeply saturated indigo, creating a magnificent expanse of blue color rugs. This expansive canvas is not entirely plain; it features a sophisticated, tone-on-tone ghosted pattern of stylized scrolling vines and medallions, visible only through the varied light reflection of the expertly knotted wool.

A striking contrast is achieved by the wide, pale camel border, which frames the central blue rectangle with precision. This border is intricately detailed with dark blue stylized chrysanthemums and traditional Chinese fretwork, offering a refined counterpoint to the monochromatic field. The subtle texture across the main area suggests an allover design executed in a low relief.

Designed for grand interiors, the generous proportions classify this textile as a true room size rug. Its sturdy, hand-knotted construction ensures durability, while its sophisticated palette makes it an ideal foundation piece for both traditional and contemporary settings, providing a timeless statement of early 20th-century Chinese artistry.
