Textiles of this type were originally produced as luxury furnishing materials rather than as pillows in their present form, and surviving fragments are valued today for preserving the weaving techniques, ornament, and materials associated with historic Italian interiors. The textile has been adapted into an exceptionally long rectangular pillow, allowing a broad section of the original composition to remain visible rather than reducing it to a small decorative fragment.

The design reflects the elaborate botanical vocabulary associated with Italian decorative arts of the Baroque period. Large stylized blossoms are distributed among sweeping curvilinear compartments outlined in warm brown. The flowers vary in scale and treatment, from rounded golden blooms to larger serrated and carnation-like blossoms. The compartmentalized construction gives the textile an architectural quality, balancing floral naturalism with an ordered geometric framework.
