This exceptionally rare Austrian Art Nouveau pendant light, dating from circa 1910, is distinguished by its sculptural spherical form and remarkable artisanal quality. The globe is composed of numerous substantial pieces of clear and warm amber-colored chunk glass. Each piece was deliberately fractured, individually shaped and polished before being carefully joined within an intricate leaded framework. Their irregular, jewel-like surfaces beautifully refract the light and project a warm, atmospheric pattern onto the surrounding walls and ceiling. A broad, hand-hammered and naturally patinated metal band encircles the center of the globe. Its subtly undulating edges, visible rivets and individually formed details emphasize the entirely handcrafted character of the piece. The substantial suspension chain and ornamented ceiling canopy complete its impressive early 20th-century appearance. The pendant has been professionally restored and thoroughly cleaned. Loose glass elements were carefully stabilized and professionally refixed while preserving the lamp’s original material and historic character. The electrical wiring has been completely renewed, and the metal body has been grounded. The metal surfaces were gently cleaned and subsequently conserved with Renaissance Wax to protect the authentic patina. The light is fitted with one E27/E26 bulb socket. Due to its age and international use, professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended. Despite extensive research, we have not identified another example of precisely the same design and exceptional construction. Its compact globe form, extraordinarily thick two-tone chunk glass and highly accomplished metalwork make this a particularly rare and visually striking example of Austrian Jugendstil lighting. Dimensions: Globe diameter: approximately 10.8 in. (27.4 cm) Globe height: approximately 10.2 in. (26 cm) Overall height including chain and canopy: approximately 32.7 in. (83 cm) Weight: approximately 7.5 lb. (3.4 kg)
