The exceptionally attractive clear pressed-glass shade displays the precisely molded prismatic structure for which holophane became internationally celebrated. Countless fine radial ribs extend across the shallow, elegantly curved shade and terminate in a beautifully sculpted, softly undulating border. When illuminated, the deeply textured glass captures, distributes and refracts the light across its entire surface. The radial prisms produce a brilliant sunburst effect, while the pronounced outer edge appears almost jewel-like. The lamp provides practical downward illumination together with a wonderfully warm and atmospheric surrounding glow. The historic german metal shade holder is impressed “reform d.r.p. 192914,” identifying its patented german mounting system from the early years of electric lighting. Its decorative ventilation openings, original fastening screws and naturally aged dark patina form a particularly attractive contrast with the clear prismatic glass. The matching stepped ceiling canopy completes the authentic period appearance. Despite its relatively delicate dimensions, the pendant has a strong architectural presence and appears considerably larger when illuminated. It is ideally suited to a hallway, entrance, kitchen, powder room or positioned above a smaller dining table, side table or kitchen island. The lamp has been professionally rewired with a high-quality three-core braided textile cable while carefully preserving its historic components and original character. The bulb holder accommodates one e26/e27 bulb and can be used with modern led lighting. The pendant remains in very good antique condition. The glass is beautifully preserved, and the metal components retain their desirable original patina, with only minimal wear consistent with age and use.
