The … Read more This 1960s Murano Sommerso glass bowl combines vivid azure blue and chartreuse green within a substantial faceted octagonal form. The thick-walled bowl is formed using the Sommerso technique, with translucent chartreuse green suspended within a surrounding matrix of azure blue glass. The overlapping colors shift considerably according to the viewing angle and available light, moving through tones of turquoise, emerald, olive, and intense blue. Its eight-sided exterior is extensively cold-worked, with broad polished facets and carefully chamfered corners giving the bowl a precise architectural character. These angular outer surfaces contrast with the smoothly rounded interior well, while the considerable depth of the glass magnifies and distorts the internal layers of color. Viewed from above, from the side, or through the base, the changing thicknesses of glass produce markedly different optical effects.

Made in Murano, Italy, around the 1960s and attributed to Seguso Vetri d'Arte, the bowl reflects the period's interest in saturated color, substantial glass forms, and highly finished surfaces. Its generous proportions and thick construction give the piece a distinctly sculptural presence while retaining its practical form as a decorative bowl. Very good condition for its age and use. All edges and corners remain pristine, with only very minor wear to the polished base.
