Each vase is richly decorated with elaborate floral panels in the traditional Imari palette of underglaze blue, iron red, soft pink and gilt
The baluster-shaped bodies feature densely painted peonies, chrysanthemums and stylised foliage arranged within sweeping decorative reserves
The domed covers are surmounted by finely modelled guardian lion finials, traditionally known as shishi or foo dogs
The generous scale, vivid colouring and extensive gilding give the pair a wonderfully decorative and imposing appearance
