Albert MARQUET (1875 - 1947) Oriental scene Ink on paper, signature stamp in the lower right corner. Dimensions: 15.5 x 20 cm (as seen) Marquet proved to be an insatiable traveler, crisscrossing Europe with his brushes. His love of the Orient began in the summer of 1911 when he traveled through Morocco on horseback. He returned there in 1913. It was also in Algeria, at the beginning of 1920, that he met his future wife, Marcelle Martinet. from 1931 to 1938, the Marquets spent their winters in Algeria. from there, they traveled extensively throughout Morocco and Tunisia. from his many stays in North Africa, he left us intimate scenes of the daily lives of its inhabitants, like our drawing, where figures wrapped in fabric veils wander about, here are dwellings, then a few palm trees on a hill, and in the distance, the Atlas Mountains rise. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
