the wide shallow bowl is richly finished in a lustrous cobalt blue glaze and mounted with finely detailed gilt-metal borders around the rim and pedestal base. A delicate openwork gilt-metal floral medallion decorates the centre of the bowl.

the underside bears a yellow enamel mark in relief, consisting of a central b between interlaced ls, in the manner of the historic sèvres marks. This mark is considered a sèvres-style or pseudo-sèvres mark rather than an attribution to the manufacture nationale de sèvres.

the construction, including the gilt-metal mounts, central fixing and cobalt porcelain elements, is characteristic of french decorative production of the late 19th century, circa 1880–1900.

a particularly striking decorative piece, combining intense cobalt blue with warm gilt-metal detailing.
