There are only a couple of antique Chippendale secretaries with a small bookcase are known. I saw 1 30 odd years ago. This is an absolute faithful reproduction of the desk in the Williamsburg collection. The secondary wood on the antique desk is white pine and on the Kittinger desk it is yellow pine. The shelves are of yellow pine. Thirteen drawers each with mahogany fronts, yellow pine sides, are all hand-dovetailed as well as the removeable bookcase section. Yellow pine drawer bottoms are hand chamfered and fastened with hand-wrought nails. The drawer bottoms on the 4 large drawers have the grain running front to back which was common on early 18th century furniture made in Boston. Love the added detail of the shell carved drop pendant on the center of the skirt. Desk stands 61" tall and is 40" wide and 21" deep. The writing height is 30 1/2". Desk has normal signs of wear and light scratches from providing years of service. I believe this is an early Kittinger example probably from the 1950's. See less
