Pair of antique figural fireplace andirons constructed from forged and hammered iron. Each upright standard terminates in an expressive cast bulldog head finial with pronounced brows, broad jowls, folded ears, and a characteristically stern expression.
The bronze-toned dog heads retain a warm, aged surface with areas of burnished wear that contrast with the dark iron standards. Hammer marks remain visible across the flattened shafts, emphasizing their handcrafted Arts and Crafts character.
Each standard rises from an arched front support with curled feet and connects to a long horizontal fire dog designed to elevate and support burning logs. The balanced proportions combine practical hearth use with a strong sculptural presence.
Bulldog imagery traditionally represented strength, vigilance, and resolve, making it a fitting decorative motif for fireplace hardware. The well-matched pair can function as working hearth accessories or as decorative objects flanking a fireplace.
